On May 4th 2019 there is a New Moon in Taurus. This is an important day not only for those born under this sign, but for all of us. This astral phenomenon concentrates the energies of the zodiac sign in which the sun and the Moon conjunct (Taurus). What does it mean, astrologically speaking?

There are different specific affirmations for each zodiac sign. Aries, for example, says „I am“. But Taurus says „I have“. Venus’s influence inclines toward possessiveness and a love of luxury. These traits help Taurus to obtain prosperity, usually through hard work.

But, for this May New moon, the most important lesson is to avoid greed and to develop generosity. Here are some ways to do it:

  • Remember those who have been generous to you. And be generous, in your turn!
  • Focus your mind on more valuable things in life than money. There are plenty, starting with love. Venus, ruler of Taurus, also will help you to experience true love.
  • Find a significant cause. It is important to know who or what you’re going to support.

We also offer you an inspirational Zen story about generosity.

Zen Story for the April New Moon: The Giver Should Be Thankful

While Seietsu was the master of Engaku in Kamakura, he required larger quarters, since those in which he was teaching were overcrowded. Umeza Seibei, a merchant of Edo, decided to donate five hundred pieces of gold called ryo toward the construction of a more commodious school. This money he brought to the teacher.

Seisetsu said: „All right. I will take it.“

Umezu gave Seisetsu the sack of gold, but he was dissatisfied with the attitude of the teacher. One might live a whole year on three ryo, and the merchant had not even been thanked for five hundred.

„In that sack are five hundred ryo“, hinted Umeza.

„You told me that before“, replied Seisetsu.

„Even if I am a wealthy merchant, five hundred ryo is a lot of money“, said Umezu.

„Do you want me to thank you for it?“ asked Seisetsi.

„You ought to“, replied Umeza.

„Why should I?“ inquired Seisetsu. „The giver should be thankful“.

The next New Moon will be on June 3rd – a New Moon in Gemini (Sun conjunct Moon in Gemini).

Until then, on May 18th, it will be a Full Moon in Scorpio (Sun in Taurus opposite Moon in Scorpio).

The next New Moon in Taurus occurs next year, on April 23rd 2020.
