We think that Jaime Lanniseter is born under the sign of Capricorn. There are not astrologers in Game of Thrones. But we can ask: what are the astrological signs of Game of Thrones main characters? Today – Jaime Lannister.
Jaime Lannister is a man of duty, but everyone considers him a traitor: the Kingslayer. But he has a complete different understanding of his own act of killing the Mad King, Aerys II. He speaks on this subject using terms like „justice“, „duty“ and „keeping an oath“. For example, when he explains his actions to Brienne of Tarth:
„He told me to bring him my father’s head. Then he turned to his pyromancer. “Burn them all,” he said. “Burn them in their homes. Burn them in their beds.” Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive, would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then?“. (Game of Thrones, 3.5, Kissed by Fire)
And, in another discussion, with Eddard Stark:
„Five hundred men just stood there and watched. All the great knights of the Seven Kingdoms. You think anyone said a word, lifted a finger? No, Lord Stark. Five hundred men and this room was silent as a crypt. Except for the screams, of course, and the mad king laughing. And later… when I watched the mad king die, I remembered him laughing as your father burned… it felt like justice“.
Let’s remember, also, his rhetoric question, addressed to Lady Catelyn Stark: „If your gods are real, if they’re just, why is the world so full of injustice? “.
His sudden decision to return to Harrenhal to rescue Brienne show Jamie not only as a man who could fall in love, but also as a man of duty. On the other hand, his inability to create emotional (or even physical) connection with women (apart from his sister) is not at all unusual for a Capricorn man.
And another characteristic of Capricorn: he remains in shadow; he is the unknown father of the kings Tommen and Joffrey. They are – like Myrcella is – his natural children, but officially they are not Lannisters, they are and remain Baratheons.
Of course, the unofficial motto of the family: „ A Lannister always pays his debts“– very well illustrated by Jaime himself – could anytime be a motto for all Capricorns. His original, literal sense was more positive than the negative context in which is more often used.
